Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, if briefly, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.
The Japanese spun out over the exit kerbs before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to avoid just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed corner before the last turn on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th place, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber P3, 0.619 seconds behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
